Competitive Fixtures
During each term our students will be involved in high tempo sessions and match play at the Bolton Arena and fixtures against college teams and local teams of appropriate standard. These fixtures will be dependent upon numbers of students and availability of players, therefore games or training sessions may be full 11-a-side, 7-a-side or 5-a-side. Each week these may vary to give a range of experiences to the students.
Cool Down Sessions
Following competitive fixtures and high tempo match play activity we believe a thorough cool down session is important to assist in injury prevention. These sessions will involve light training sessions or activities. During these sessions analysis of previous match play and coaching to look at improvement will be incorporated where necessary.
Stamina & Endurance Coaching
With the physical game in England the students will be coaching weekly to build on their stamina and endurance to maintain a high level of aerobic fitness. During these sessions and linking to the personal training plan, the students should develop fitness and strength to allow them to compete and increase their physical presence of the field.
Football Coaching (Technical)
Practice makes perfect with every individual player. Each week the students will be coached not only in the complexities of the game but also the simple elements of the game to ensure individual improvement and performance. Simple repetitive practices such as the professionals in the English game take part in; will be introduced to ensure the players are focused on all aspects of the game.
Football Coaching (Tactical)
Following on from the lectures regarding the English game, the group will be coached as a team. Each week they will prepare for the following game and work on the tactical side of their game together, looking at shape, movement, set plays, defending and attacking as a team and phase of play, using examples from games they have been involved in and the professional game in England.
Football Coaching with BWFC international Youth Academy
The Academy has a strong partnership with many football clubs throughout the UK, from grass roots to the Premiership. One of these links is with Bolton Wanderers from the English Premiership. Each week the students will receive these coaching sessions by BWFC international Youth Academy coaches. These sessions will expose the students to the highest level of football coaching available in the country.
Fitness Training/Speed, Agility, Quickness
Each week the students will be put through their paces in the early week fitness sessions. These sessions will vary from endurance, strength, conditioning and technical movements associated with the game. All students are expected to use these sessions to improve fitness for the game and to provide ideas along with them being a learning tool for the personal fitness sessions.
The sessions will include footwork and developing quick feet without the ball, co-ordination and awareness, anaerobic speed burst movements of the game and general aerobic fitness.
During these sessions students will be taught the safe practices of training to assist in injury prevention.
Season Ticket to all BWFC Home Premiership Matches
As part of the course all students are guests of BWFC International academy at all home Premiership matches. Attendance to these games is mandatory.
Personal Fitness Plan
Each student will have access, 7 days a week, to the Bolton Arena Health & Fitness Centre. The centre is fully equipped with state of the art training and weight machines, along with a steam room, sauna and an athletics track. Each student, after initial assessment in week one, will be set a Personal Fitness Programme to develop their aerobic fitness and stamina along with strength and endurance. This can will be compiled with the fully qualified gym staff on site at the Bolton arena and will provide a general fitness programme for the players. Throughout the course there are many elements of fitness that the coaches work on to deal with the demanding physical side to the English game. Those players wishing to push themselves to reach their physical peak for the game can also be provided with a football/position specific fitness and strength based training programme to work on in the timetabled gym sessions. English football is a very physical and demanding game and we at expect all students to be fully focused and self driven regarding personal improvement in fitness and all aspects of the game. Each week students will receive regular feedback on their own fitness to help individually shape personal needs, setting weekly and monthly targets to develop the players’ fitness. Throughout the week students will have several opportunities to work on their personal fitness plan. These will be monitored by our staff to ensure efficient use of time.
Education
With all students it is important not only to be focused on the football element of the course but also personal and academic progression. Each student is therefore automatically enrolled onto the BTEC First Diploma in “Sport Performance and Excellence”. We feel that the academic component of the program is of great importance. Successful completion will allow all students to progress with their education and give them an accredited qualification to take away with them. This allows students to remain flexible regarding possible future career paths in sport or football related industries. The course modules have also been carefully selected in order to compliment and reinforce all aspects of the football training, fitness and competitive match play program.
Accomodation
Bolton Wanderers FC Academy provides a host family accomodation. All participants will be hosted by families that are carefully selected and checked regularly. This option includes half-board (breakfast and dinner) from Monday to Friday and full board in at the week end. Students eat a main meal with the family and are therefore brought naturally into contact with everyday english life. Cleaning and laundry services are included.
Check in & Registration
Every morning the Course Leader Michael Brennan (UEFA B Qualified Coach) will register and greet the players, in order to give informations about the program regarding trainings, soccer matches, social activities, trips and changes to timetabling. Through these daily meetings the Course Leader can monitor the participants and talk with them about the developing of the program and possible issues. The meetings with the students are very important especially during the first weeks of the course in helping them to settle in to life in England and to develop friendship between the students.
Tipycal weekly program
The program is developed to put the soccer players in the best situation to follow a period of athletic and educational preparation finalized to reach the goal of the project. The following program can change depending on the competitive engagemets of the players.
